TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Iraqi commander in Kirkuk stressed that had it not been for the sacrifices of the resistance commanders, many regions in the country would still be occupied by the Daesh terrorist group.

Martrys Soleimani, Al-Muhandis

Hatam al-Aasi in a speech praised the sacrifices made by Lt. General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, saying without their efforts, Iraq would not have been liberated, Buratha news website reported.

On the eve of martyrdom of the resistance commanders, “we remember how they played a major role” in liberating Iraq’s different regions from the Daesh terrorist group, he said.

Al-Aasi also stressed the need for those behind assassination of the resistance commanders to be brought to justice.

General Soleimani, who was the commander of the IRGC Quds Force, Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) Deputy Commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of January 3, 2020.

The White House and the Pentagon claimed responsibility for the assassinations, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of then US president Donald Trump.
